Fun Onesies you can Stitch for Baby


Sew for Baby Fun onesies tutorial

Embellishing a purchased onesie with a simple applique and some easy embroidery makes an adorable and very useful gift for a new baby. In this tutorial, I show you step by step how to make the Little Whale Applique and provide some inspiration for additional designs. You will need the following supplies:




Scrap of Navy Cotton Knit for Whale

Scrap of White Cotton Knit for Whale Eye

Floss to match navy and white knits as well as DMC and

Instructions:

Trace the pattern onto the Onesie using the fabric marker. A lightbox or window is helpful for this. Cut out the whale piece and use to cut a body from the Navy Knit and an eye from the White Knit.

Trace the design using the blue fabric marking pen.

Use 2 strands of the matching floss, the embroidery needle and a blanket stitch to attach the whale body to the onesie.

Using a blanket stitch to attach the body of the whale.

Use 1 strand of white floss, the embroidery needle and simple whip stitches to attach the eye to the whale body.

Using whip stitches to attach the eye.

Use 2 strands of the navy floss, the milliner's needle and stitch a 12 wrap bullion stitch to form the eye. Couch the bullion stitch into a curve.

Adding a bullion stitch to the center of the eye.

The water, seagulls and sun are all stitched with 2 strands of floss, the embroidery needle and the stem stitch.

Use the stem stitch to add the water, sun and seagulls.
